Working to Protect
Leander's Future

Meet City Councilmember

Marci Cannon

Marci Cannon has lived in Leander for 20 years and has been actively involved in the community raising her two kids who attended Leander School District. Marci has worked for over a decade to bring quality development to Leander. Bringing public and private parties together understanding the complexities of compromise and negotiation.

In the past three years, Marci has helped reverse many over-reaching regulations on commercial development while at the same time improving quality – resulting in many new retail and restaurants. Marci represents Leander in a joint project with Williamson County and TxDot for the Hero Way extension project which will be Leander’s only east/west corridor to I35.

We have discovered many infrastructure instability points caused by years of uncontrolled growth and lack of planning. We initiated an independent analysis of our water, wastewater, and roads and there is much work to be done. Using independent data, we can increase reliability and hold city staff accountable for spending.

Marci Cannon is currently serving on Leander’s Capital Improvement Projects Subcommittee spending hours with staff reviewing over 240 city projects most of which were over budget with no deliverable dates. We suggested approximately 40 priority infrastructure recommendations to Council and after the water/wastewater and transportation studies are complete we will use that data to recommend the priority of remaining projects. Marci also serves on the CAMPO Transportation Policy Board, representing the needs of Leander and ensuring we are included in regional transportation plans with TxDOT and County funds.

Marci has worked with Mayor Hill and staff in pursuit of companies bringing high-paying careers. She identified a toolbox of incentives we can use to attract those businesses. Our membership in CapMetro requires giving them 50% of our sales tax. This puts Leander at a severe disadvantage when competing with neighboring cities who can use their sales tax to offer cash and land to these prospects. In 2020 we were still able to bring over four such companies resulting in over 230 full-time jobs.

Marci's Accomplishments

Marci Cannon has a strong record of collaborating with fellow councilmembers towards a strong future for the city of Leander.

Streamlined Regulations that Attract New Businesses

Bringing a diverse set of businesses that help shape our future in the best way possible is essential to all of our citizens. Marci wants to see a variety of great businesses come to Leander and knows that streamlined, fair regulations are a key to success.

Prioritized Infrastructure Development

Being the fastest growing city in America is a great thing. However, one must be ready to face the challenges with this growth. Marci has been prepared from the beginning with work towards smart, prioritized development of our infrastructure. Planning for the future with sound, workable solutions will ensure that Leander is prepared for continued growth.

Cuts to Wasteful Spending of Your Tax Dollars

Marci believes that the use of your tax dollars is exactly as if she was managing your personal budget. It is important that our tax dollars are used for essential services as well as to ensure that we spend more efficiently now to avoid having to spend more (and potentially wastefully) later. Marci will continue to ensure that your tax dollars are utilized wisely.

Doubled Sales Tax Revenues & Reduced City Property Taxes

The Leander City Property Tax rate has been decreased each year Marci has been a member of the City Council. She will continue to find ways to save taxpayer money and ensure that you are well-positioned for the growth of our great city of Leander. This can be done additionally by the hard work of bringing in new businesses that stimulate review growth through the sales tax. Ongoing increases in sales tax revenue is a great way to be able to continue lowering property taxes without hurting essential services.
